The Advanced Manufacturing Training and Expansion Program (AMTEP) is designed to assist and ease the process of adults continuing their education as they pursue a role in the manufacturing industry. For many individuals, making the choice to continue their education later in their life is a difficult decision that requires a lot of support and adjustment to daily life.
In order to have a successful program, we rely on the expertise of our instructors, who play a key role in the development of new successful manufacturing employees. Keep reading to learn all about the important role of leadership in driving the continuous learning culture that AMTEP promotes and carries out.
Giving Support
One of the most important things you will offer your students as an instructor at AMTEP is genuine and unwavering support. Oftentimes when people decide to make a drastic career switch, they are met with pushback and doubt from their friends, family, and current work peers.
Pursuing a new career, especially later in the game, is an incredibly difficult decision that many people are brave for making. As an instructor, you are someone they look up to and are also an example of success. Reassuring your students that their decision to pursue manufacturing is one that will benefit them in the long run and worth the turmoil they may be currently facing, will help more than you may think.
Acting as a Role Model
In addition to offering support, simply existing as an example of success in the manufacturing industry will hold incredible significance to those participating in class. Having an example of an end goal present in their journey will help to reassure them when things become challenging.
Having a role model and someone to look up to in their industry will allow students to see a light at the end of their tunnel and also give them an example of someone to model themselves after as they progress in their education, apprenticeship, and career.
Creating Mutual Respect
When holding the role of instructor through AMTEP, you will likely come into contact with many students who have not previously been satisfied with their professional life. Maybe they felt they were being unfairly treated or not compensated adequately, whatever the reason may be, taking care to establish a mutual respect will help set the tone for their experience in the manufacturing industry.
One of the best aspects of the manufacturing industry is the standard employers hold for their employees. Most manufacturing companies equip their employees with full benefits and fair compensation. Although this seemingly should be the standard for all legal work in the United States, this is not always the case and many students you teach may have come from unethical situations such as these. Setting the standard- showing and expecting respect, will help students see that when it comes to the manufacturing industry, good work and a good attitude is seen and acknowledged.
Spreading Knowledge
Although it may seem like a given, when you are an instructor at AMTEP, you will be charged with the invaluable responsibility of spreading your expertise and knowledge to the next generation of manufacturers. Your ability to create a positive and successful environment based on education with a goal of success will help your students enter in the industry prepared and ready to thrive.
