At no cost to unemployed, underemployed and inexperienced career seekers, NAMC’s educational partners and career centers are executing multiple training cycles in the four regions (North Shore, Lowell, Merrimack Valley, and Metro North) to support the advanced manufacturing industry. Regularly run programs in Machining, Electromechanical Assembly, and Welding can be accessed year-round. Below, please find a schedule of our training programs. If you would like more information on any of the training programs listed below, click the “Sign Up” button and a MassHire Career Center representative will be in touch.
Students will learn how to operate manual and CNC Mills and Lathes, blueprint reading, geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GDT), introduction to G-Code, and obtain a NIMS (National Institute for Metal Working Skills) CNC Milling and Lathe certification. The North Shore offers evening & Saturday 415 hour programs spring and fall, as well as a 310 hour daytime summer program, while other regions (Metro North, Lowell, and Merrimack Valley) execute evening 310 hour winter programs.
The curriculum covers Oxygen Acetylene Welding and Oxygen Fuel Cutting, Shielded Metal Arc Welding, Gas Tungsten Arc Welding and Gas Metal Arc Welding, Advanced Gas Tungsten Arc Welding Non Ferrous Metals, and Blueprint Reading and Metal Fabrication. All courses within the curriculum meet American Welding Society (AWS) Guidelines and result in AWS Certification and an OSHA 10 general industry card.
Students will learn DC Theory and Lab, AC Theory and Lab, J-STD-001 Soldering and lab. Soldering Cert from IPC, AC & DC Certs from Electronics Technician Association (ETA). Lowell offers an evening 300 hour program.
Students will learn how to use assembly hand tools, print reading, measuring, torquing, micrometers, oscilloscopes, wire harnesses and termination types crimping, pins, lugs, extractors, and connectors. Basic electrical theory and lab: conductance of current/electrons flow in an electric circuit, continuity, temperature measurements, decibels, and electrostatics. The North Shore offers a 210 hour program.
Students will learn about metrology concepts, quality management systems, compliance, data analysis, problem solving, continuous improvement, and lean manufacturing. Students successfully completing the program are prepared to sit for an American Society for Quality (ASQ) certification exam. The appropriate level of exam will depend upon individual participant education and experience. The different ASQ certification levels include Yellow Belt, Green Belt, Quality Improvement Associate (CQIA), and Quality Inspector (CQI). This program is not currently being offered.
This program introduces the concepts and technology used in modern manufacturing environments, to include Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs) programs that operate an in-class robot. The program includes online modules as well as hands on activities using training equipment. The concepts and skills presented during the program are relevant to setup, programming, running and troubleshooting automated equipment and industrial robots.
