The Mental Strain of Job Hunting
Starting a new career is never easy. Trust us, we know.
When browsing LinkedIn or Indeed.com, it’s easy to get discouraged. Many entry-level positions at reputable companies frustratingly require prior work experience.
We’ve all seen the low-on-the-totem-pole job position that somehow still requires 3-5 years of previous experience.
For many, internships and a college degree were either not possible or not the right fit. We don’t believe that this should prevent a motivated job seeker from getting a stable, prosperous career.
And the average amount of student loan debt in the United States is $39,351. Many entry-level positions can’t even cover that amount.
However, there are so many jobs in the market that require a college degree. And, while education is absolutely important, job seekers shouldn’t feel forced to begin their careers in debt.
These factors become very overwhelming, very quickly – especially for those fresh out of high school, who may not quite know what they truly want from a career.
How Can AMTEP Help Your Job Search
As we mentioned above, job searching is tough.
According to the Pew Research Center, “seven-in-ten unemployed adults say, as a result of being unemployed, they have felt more stressed than usual, and 56% say they have experienced more emotional or mental health issues, such as anxiety or depression.”
The negatives don’t stop there. The report goes on to explain that, “53% say they have felt like they lost a piece of their identity, while 41% say they’ve had more conflicts or arguments than usual with family and friends.”
To put it plainly, these numbers are unacceptable, especially in today’s day and age. Finding your next career should be an exciting time in your life, filled with possibilities.
But what’s the solution? How can we help?
In a partnership between MassHire North Shore and the NAMC, the Advanced Manufacturing Training and Expansion Program (AMTEP) was formed.
With AMTEP, we can support both job seekers and the North Shore’s thriving manufacturing industry. We do this by offering free, hands-on manufacturing training led by expert instructors in various areas of the industry.
All of this happens at easy-to-access locations (even some virtual courses), such as community colleges and vocational schools on the North Shore.
Class schedules are often flexible and are designed to work alongside your schedule if you’re looking to switch careers without leaving your current position.
In addition, you’ll network with your fellow trainees and leaders in the local manufacturing community. AMTEP also seeks to help place trained graduates into positions at partnered companies, both supporting our trainees and the manufacturing industry.
In short, AMTEP provides you with the experience you need to get started!
No Cost, No Risks–Only Rewards
If you’re one of those job seekers out there unsure of what to do next, there’s almost no risk when signing up for AMTEP training.
If at the end of the program, you decide that a manufacturing career isn’t for you, the only thing that you’ve lost is a small amount of your time.
However, you will always have some experience to lean on in the future if you decide to pursue an industry career or a different career path that uses similar skills.
