Innovative technology and advanced manufacturing go hand-in-hand. The last few years have seen rapid advances in technology and as such, rapid advances in the manufacturing industry.

With these advances, it’s essential that the manufacturing industry employs talent that can not only learn to use the latest technology but can keep pace with and master it.

For a successful career in 2022 and beyond, it’s essential that manufacturing workers receive training in these new technologies and equipment, and continue training.

By supporting this training, manufacturing companies can ensure that they keep up with competition and create state-of-the-art products, propelling success.

A New Generation of Manufacturers

According to Deloitte Insights, almost 2.4 million manufacturing positions were left unfilled between 2018 and 2019 due to a retiring workforce and a lack of modern technical skills.

Indeed, a staggering statistic that truly illustrates the industry’s need for fresh talent. Many of which are ready and willing to learn the latest techniques and advanced tools to perform their daily duties.

Today’s manufacturers require developed skills in multiple fields, such as:

  • CNC Machine Operating,
  • Welding,
  • Electronics,
  • Electro-Mechanical Assembly,
  • And Robotics

It would be nearly impossible to list all the technologies that professionals in these fields use on a daily basis, which is exactly why the manufacturing industry needs skilled workers.

A Quick Note About Robotics

Okay.

When talking about technology, we can’t ignore the elephant in the room–robotics. There’s a common misconception that robots will eventually take jobs away from human manufacturing professionals.

Yes. Robotics has become a major part of the manufacturing industry. With robotics, we can create precise products on a large scale that have major applications and impact on the world.

However, this doesn’t mean that humans have been replaced.

Not at all. Quite the contrary.

The next generation of manufacturers are professionals that control the robots, mastering techniques to wield robotics as a way to streamline the creation of innovative products.

You may be wondering, how do we place incoming workers into the North Shore manufacturing industry?

For us, we put our faith into accessible, no-cost training for motivated job seekers through the Advanced Manufacturing Training and Expansion Program.

The program is a result of a partnership between MassHire North Shore and the Northeast Advanced Manufacturing Consortium and seeks to provide skills training for the next generation of manufacturers.

Through this program, we can incentivize unemployed or underemployed individuals to join free manufacturing training courses on the North Shore.

In this, we can help develop the skills needed by employers and provide job seekers a pathway towards career success–meaning a stable job, consistent income, and nearly limitless career growth.

And by partnering with and working closely with the area’s leading employers and educational institutions, AMTEP can help design programs that match the local industry’s needs, not only filling vacancies but also innovating the positions.
